Mother.

Mothering is the most profound thing I have been called to do in this life. To find it within myself to open my heart more and more deeply with each passing day, with each new challenge. To be presented with the choice every moment of every day: “How will I love you right now? Will I close my heart? Choose comfort over courage? Choose what feels easy and familiar over the sometimes profound fear and pain of vulnerability and uncertainty? Will I be willing to challenge everything I think I know about you, about myself, about God and parenting and how things are supposed to be so that I can have more peace, more love-so that I can raise these girls to be deeply human; so that I can cultivate their hearts for love and courage, too?”

Mothering extends beyond our children. It is how we show up to ourselves, to our families and communities, and to the world—Mother Earth herself—who needs our selfless love so badly.

I am profoundly grateful to be called mother. To be mothered so well by my own mama and to witness women around me mothering so beautifully. It is an honour I do not take for granted. Here’s to each one of us—to the good enough mother inside us all.
